Practicing Mindfulness

A few weeks ago, I was walking through my local grocery store and I was struck by some significant changes.

All the Christmas decorations had been replaced by diet books, blenders, exercise equipment and yoga mats. "New year, new you" was in full swing.

Now, don't get me wrong. I don't think there is anything wrong with a fresh start. In fact, I embrace the idea. But sometimes, we get so focused on making things "new" that we forget who we are underneath all of that. Our past, present and future are all inclusive. And our bodies, especially tell that story whether we want them to or not.

THE HEALTH TRIAD

Illness, trauma, malnutrition, labor, obesity, combat, sports injuries and so many other things leave their mark on our bodies - and not just physically. In our experience, the physical, mental, and spiritual are all interconnected. It's what we call the health triad.

That's why when we receive a patient with PTSD who has been in a war zone, we see that the effects of the emotional trauma manifesting physically. Tension, pain, inability to sleep - it's all connected.

The same is true for someone who has had a negative experience with another health care practitioner, or a patient who is apprehensive and doesn't know what to expect from a chiropractic adjustment. If a patients does not feel comfortable or safe, they won't get as much from their care as they could. There is so much power in the way we think!

GETTING MORE FROM YOUR ADJUSTMENT

Many people don't fully comprehend the far reaching effects of Chiropractic. It literally releases life forces and changes the physiology of the entire body, allowing you to function as you were innately designed.

To put it simply, Chiropractic helps make you your best self.

When you come into our office, we want you to experience that. And chiropractic works, whether you believe in it or not. However, the power of positive thinking is real, and we want you to take advantage of the mind/body connection. Below are some steps you can take to increase the power of each adjustment you receive in our office:

1.) Prepare yourself.

Whether this means getting to our office early so that you can relax, wearing comfortable clothes or having all of your appointments pre-scheduled, try to come prepared.

2.) Seek knowledge.

The more that you understand about the way your body works, the more empowered you will feel. Take time to do your own research. Come in with questions and be curious. We want educated patients who make their health a priority! It doesn't matter where you start from, we are here to help you get to your best self.

3.) Let us help you.

We want to do everything we can to make you comfortable in our office, so if you need something, please ask! We will do all we can to accommodate your needs and help you feel at home with us. We truly love our patients and want you to know it, so don't be afraid to speak up.

4.) Relax.

Your adjustment will go smoother if you are relaxed and calm. Take deep breathes. Close your eyes if you can, and practice mindfulness by meditating and being present in the moment. Trust that you are in the best of hands with our Doctors and staff. We promise not to judge if you fall asleep!

5.) Empower your thoughts.

The power of positive thinking is real. After your adjustment, remember that your nervous system is now functioning optimally and your power is ON! Your body has been restored to a higher level - physically, mentally, and spiritually. You have the opportunity to take advantage of this power and accomplish anything. So get out there and achieve your dreams!

GETTING ADJUSTED REGULARLY

If you brush your teeth once, will you have a healthy smile? If you go to the gym once, will you have your dream body?

Nope.

The same is true for Chiropractic. Getting adjusted consistently is your most valuable tool for your nervous system to function optimally and keep you at your best. Get adjusted regularly!
